2017 May 2

The Cat's Meow, GC's 12-member curricular contemporary a cappella pop ensemble, was invited to sing in a group masterclass and an exhibition performance at the National A Cappella Convention on April 22 at Briarcrest Christian School in Eads, TN, outside Memphis.

Under the direction of Stephen Hutchings, Ryan Sokolowski from Atlanta performs with the Cat's Meow and was invited participate in a masterclass focused on group performance styles. The group was also instructed by three members of the professional a cappella group Voxpop.

"The masterclass really gave us an opportunity to come together as a group, recognize what we were doing wrong and fix it with the help of some really cool teachers," said Jacob McDonald, freshman music education major.

The National A Cappella Convention brings high school and college a cappella groups together to perform for each other and learn to better their craft through educational classes. The convention consists of a high school group competition, showcase groups and exhibition performance groups. The Cat's Meow sang during the exhibition performances.

"They were all interested because they all sing a cappella music too. It was a unique chance to perform for some very talented peers," said Camille Horne, sophomore psychology major.

The convention allowed for the Cat's Meow to sing with peers and learn from watching other groups.
