The Mass Communication Outstanding Major is chosen based on criteria including GPA and extracurricular involvement, but most importantly on the student's overall commitment and contribution to the mass comm major.

The College of Health Sciences held its annual awards ceremony in April where students were recognized for their achievements in their respective major within the health sciences field.

Several students were recognized for their achievements by the Georgia College Department of Psychological Sciences at the spring 2017 Psychology Recognition Reception.

The Georgia College Math Club took home the silver medal at this year's Math Jeopardy tournament held at Mercer University March 10 and 11, 2017. The tournament was part of the annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America. Over 30 teams participated in the tournament.

Eight students presented their research at the Academy of Economics and Finance Conference (AFE) last week in Charleston, South Carolina, with two tying for the top prize.

Laura Pitts, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student at Georgia College, received the Spillman Bischoff Scholarship from the Georgia Association for Nursing Education in February 2017.

Georgia College congratulates graduate student Audrey Waits on being awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant. Waits received the grant in biology to research pathogenic bacteria in reindeer with researchers from the Thule Institute at the University of Oulu in Finland

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently released its list of 2014-15 Scholar-Athletes for collegiate softball, placing eight Georgia College players on the list.

Two Georgia College students were named the first Scholars of Distinction from a group of four finalists. The program recognizes students for their creation and implementation of impact projects that serve the Baldwin and Milledgeville communities. Senior Political Science major Abigail Stout partnered with Oak Hill Middle School in Milledgeville to create a student council, which aims to influence students to become leaders and a positive influence among their peers. Graduate student Sarah Kukshtel, who is in the special education degree program, began the first Unified Physical Education program at Baldwin County High School, which was created to help students develop attitudes of leadership that foster respect and acceptance among students of all ability levels.

Ashlyn Douglas was recently awarded the Newman Civic Fellow Award from Campus Compact for her research.

Darby Witek was one of only 16 students in the country to receive the Gilder-Lehrman History Scholar Award.

Two students were selected to speak at the May 2015 undergraduate commencement ceremonies. Political Science major and valedictorian Kayla Upchurch will speak at the morning ceremony. The afternoon speaker will be Carly Grayson, exercise science major, who will also be recognized as a valedictorian and completed the Honors program.

Valedictorians earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages during all of their undergraduate coursework. These students earned the distinction from Georgia College's May 2015 graduating class.

Keri Spetzer will be working alongside Dr. Arash Bodaghee, who secured $20,000 in funding from NASA for research. The research, in collaboration with Potsdam Observatory in Berlin and the California Institute of Technology, will explore the relationship between massive stars and their fuel sources of black holes and neutron stars.

Two undergraduate physics majors spent countless hours during the last few months capturing photos of the heavens through the observatory's high-powered telescope. Thanks to their work and analysis, the observatory is now accredited by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center (MPC).
