The College of Business is proud to announce the students selected by their department faculty as the Outstanding Major for each department. From these students, the Outstanding College of Business student is selected by a committee of faculty members representing each department.

Twenty-two seniors have been named valedictorians for the May 2020 graduating class.

Georgia College Psychology senior Anthony Pruner received the Bill McDaniel Research Award for 2019-2020. He will present his research "Screen Time and Problem Behaviors in Preschool Age Children" at the annual psychology department awards ceremony PSYCCON 2020 on April 10, 2020.

The student body elected a new Student Government Association executive board. The winners were announced after the Homecoming basketball game on Feb. 22.

The School of Health and Human Performance (SHHP) prepared four Exercise Science students, Rosanna Baker, Oliver Carnazzo, Cole Moye, and Daniel Torres, to compete against 35 other schools in the Southeast American College of Sports Medicine (SEACSM) Student Academic Bowl held in Jacksonville, FL. Georgia College's "Ex Sci 2020" team was led by Dr. Kelly P. Massey and Dr. Jinkyung Park and came in second place, missing first by only one point.

Georgia College's Theatre Department was nominated in four categories during the recent Region IV of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in South Carolina. Georgia College made it to the finals in three categories with two students taking first place. GC students Laura Swarner and Sachen Pillay both took first place in their categories and student Tiffany Hawkins made it to the finals as well and was one of 16 actors in the region nominated for the Kennedy Center's Irene Ryan Acting Award.

Recent GCSU graduates Anyauna Spikes, Amir Abdallah, Kyle Castleberry, Khadeem Coumarbatch, Joshua Ballard-Myer and Nick Palmer were all published in the Georgia Journal of Science for their undergraduate research paper on "ball lightning." On May 23, 2019, GCSU students competed and placed 7th among 13 other teams from all around the world at the 11th Annual ERPsim World Championship in Montreal. Benjamin Larson, Nathan Patton, Andrew Brown, Matthew Baker and Jack Kouloukas represented the GCSU team being ranked 2nd out of the 4 North American teams.

Every year, students from GC participate in a program called GC in Washington (GC in DC). This internship is a great way for students to learn and apply professional skills in a great setting.

Senior psychology major Zykeria Jones of Warner Robins was one of 11 students from Georgia College, who attended the 23rd annual Southeastern Model of the African Union (SEMAU) conference in November at Kennesaw State University. She won the Southeastern Model of the African Union's (SEMAU's) Leadership-in-Committee Award. SEMAU is a realistic, three-day simulation that recreates the gathering of African heads-of-state. Students debate issues of critical importance and make decisions that could be adopted by real governments, impacting the lives of millions.

Dr. Steve Dorman, president of Georgia College, has awarded degrees to the graduating class of Fall 2019.

Six physics students, recently graduated, got their undergraduate research paper on "ball lightning" published in the Georgia Journal of Science. "This particular instant is the highest level of achievement one can think of when it comes to integrating undergraduate research into coursework," said Physics Assistant Professor Dr. Hasitha Mahabaduge. He taught the 2019 Statistical Mechanics course that resulted in the publication. Undergraduates rarely have a peer-reviewed publication published by the time they finish college. Georgia Journal of Science publication will make these students more competitive when they apply to graduate schools, he said.

Seven seniors have been named valedictorians for the December 2019 graduating class.

Junior nursing major McKenna Yearick completed the qualifications for the Gold Medal Congressional Award. That means she completed 400 hours of volunteer service as well as 200 hours of both personal development and physical fitness while also planning and executing a five-day expedition. Because Yearick achieved the highest level Gold Award, she will be honored in June 2020 at Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Members of Congress will present the awards to their constituents at a distinguished ceremony. Although she started the program as a young teenager, her involvement at Georgia College helped give her the final push to completing the program. She worked as a community advisor for University Housing, is in the Honors Program, serves as a Young Life leader at GMC, gives her time for community service in multiple ways and still finds time to follow her two passions which are nursing and travel. Her goal is to one day utilize her nursing skills and global studies minor to help in international missions and continuing her enthusiasm of service.

The following four students were named All-State Flag Football players: Josh Hammond - State MVP Charlie Newell - All State Men's Division Matt Quint - All State Men's Division Rosanna Baker - All State Corec Division Georgia College also had an official, Nathan Haines, that was awarded All Tournament Official. He was the 3rd ranked student official in the state.

MALE Connection (Mentoring African-Americans for Leadership, Education & Connection) is Georgia College's African-American Male Initiative, supported by the University System of Georgia's African-American Male Initiative (AAMI) started in 2002 to address retention, progression, and graduation for African-American males within the USG. As an AAMI program, MALE Connection follows the official AAMI Integrated Program Model, which focuses on addressing retention, progression, and graduation of African-American males via the following components: Academic Skills Enrichment Student Support Services Adult & Peer Mentoring Leadership Development These students participate in various enrichment and leadership opportunities throughout the year in order to maximize their impact on GC, the surrounding community and their career trajectories.

Georgia College's Student Government Association (SGA) serves the campus community by addressing student concerns, promoting understanding within the college community and administering all matters which are delegated to the student government by the university president. Senators are elected on a yearly basis.

Travis Aultman, nursing student and president- elect of Georgia College Association of Nursing Students, collaborated with faculty on a Murace poster project entitled "Disaster Training and Preparedness for BSN nursing Students." The poster was accepted for presentation at National Student Nurses Association mid year convention in Chicago on Nov. 1-3, 2019. Travis and faculty attended the conference and participated in the poster display.
