First Scholars of Distinction honored

Two Georgia College students were named the first Scholars of Distinction from a group of four finalists. The program recognizes students for their creation and implementation of impact projects that serve the Baldwin and Milledgeville communities. Senior Political Science major Abigail Stout partnered with Oak Hill Middle School in Milledgeville to create a student council, which aims to influence students to become leaders and a positive influence among their peers. Graduate student Sarah Kukshtel, who is in the special education degree program, began the first Unified Physical Education program at Baldwin County High School, which was created to help students develop attitudes of leadership that foster respect and acceptance among students of all ability levels.

Four student are part of the first class of Call Me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role models) students at Georgia College. The new program aims to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader and more diverse background. Program Director Emmanuel Little says the program is integral to the changing world of education.

Senior honored with the Giving Tree Award

The Giving Tree Award, which is given by the GIVE Center each year to only one student, is an honor presented on Earth Day for a student who has left an impact on campus. The GIVE Center plants a tree dedicated to the person, which leaves a lasting legacy. This year, David Dietz has been honored with this award.

Valedictorians selected to speak at commencement

Two students were selected to speak at the May 2015 undergraduate commencement ceremonies. Political Science major and valedictorian Kayla Upchurch will speak at the morning ceremony. The afternoon speaker will be Carly Grayson, exercise science major, who will also be recognized as a valedictorian and completed the Honors program.
