On Friday, June 19, 2015, the newest Georgia College students and their families attended New Student Orientation. Orientation is a day-long program that offers new students and transfer students the opportunity to establish a link with faculty in their intended major, become familiar with the campus and the array of academic and campus life programs available and "take care of business" to prepare for move-in.

Ashlyn Douglas was recently awarded the Newman Civic Fellow Award from Campus Compact for her research.

Darby Witek was one of only 16 students in the country to receive the Gilder-Lehrman History Scholar Award.

The Giving Tree Award, which is given by the GIVE Center each year to only one student, is an honor presented on Earth Day for a student who has left an impact on campus. The GIVE Center plants a tree dedicated to the person, which leaves a lasting legacy. This year, David Dietz has been honored with this award.

Two students were selected to speak at the May 2015 undergraduate commencement ceremonies. Political Science major and valedictorian Kayla Upchurch will speak at the morning ceremony. The afternoon speaker will be Carly Grayson, exercise science major, who will also be recognized as a valedictorian and completed the Honors program.

Two students were named as the national leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa's Emerging Leaders of the Year. Freshman and sophomores are nominated by faculty, staff or other student leaders for serving as a role model on campus, maintaining good academic standing and making a positive impact on the campus community.

Valedictorians earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages during all of their undergraduate coursework. These students earned the distinction from Georgia College's May 2015 graduating class.

The College of Health Sciences held its annual awards ceremony on April 10, where students were recognized for their achievements in their respective major within the health sciences field.

Students are recognized for their outstanding work in the mass communication and rhetoric field at Georgia College.

Several students were recently chosen to have their work publishedrk in "The Corinthian," Georgia College's journal of student research.

The national organization regularly inducts thousands of academically excellent students who share its mission of promoting education and providing community service to their colleges and communities. Currently, there are approximately 40,000 active student members of Gamma Beta Phi and their numbers and commitment to the Society's ideals continue to grow.

Members of the Georgia College University Chorus Select Ensemble takes part in the Macon Symphony Orchestra performance titled "Cinematic Celebration."

Student's works have been published in "The Peacocks Feet," Georgia College's undergraduate journal for literary and artistic talents.

The top male and female volunteers through The GIVE Center were honored with Bobcat Awards. The students received the award for completing the most volunteers hours for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The GIVE Center announced the recipients of the Bronze Level Presidential Service Award. This list is comprised of students who have completed between 100-174 service hours during 2014.

Every year the Department of Psychological Science recognizes outstanding psychology majors. More than 25 students were recognized for their accomplishments this year.

Four Georgia College students from the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences received awards at the 2015 Georgia Academy of Sciences annual research meeting held in Milledgeville in March.

The GIVE Center released its list of Georgia College's top 30 volunteers for the 2014-2015 school year. The list is comprised of the 30 students with the most registered service hours for this academic year.

Keri Spetzer will be working alongside Dr. Arash Bodaghee, who secured $20,000 in funding from NASA for research. The research, in collaboration with Potsdam Observatory in Berlin and the California Institute of Technology, will explore the relationship between massive stars and their fuel sources of black holes and neutron stars.

Two undergraduate physics majors spent countless hours during the last few months capturing photos of the heavens through the observatory's high-powered telescope. Thanks to their work and analysis, the observatory is now accredited by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center (MPC).

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the 20 student-athletes named to the 2015 Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams(R), including Georgia College's Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Georgia), earning the highest in her long list of collegiate accolades thus far.
